Kindness, Math and More

This week Officer Kaatmann, our School Resource Officer, came to talk to our class about safety inside and outside our school. He taught the kids four things to do during an emergency at school.
  1. Quiet
  2. Listen
  3. Look
  4. Stay with your group
He also led us on a safety walk with Mrs. Hunn's class to show the kids where we would go if we ever needed to find our rally point. The kids did great and took all four of Officer Kaatmann's tips very seriously. This will help us get ready for our first Intruder Drill, which will happen later this month (more details to come from Dr. Cicotte).

We spent a lot of time this week learning about Initiating Kindness (the "I" in Panther PRIDE). To illustrate how being kind to others has an effect on yourself, we read lots of books, specifically The Rainbow Fish (Marcus Pfister) and Have You Filled a Bucket Today? (Carol McCloud/David Messing). [There are lots of read aloud options for these books on YouTube!].

After reading this week, we have spent lots of time 'pair-sharing' and brainstorming ways to be kind and fill others' buckets. Your children have instructions to teach all of you at home what "Initiating Kindness" and "Bucket Filling" means. 😊

We have been very busy as mathematcians this week, learning several math games to help us build number sense and practice number formation. We have been doing lots of partner work with our math games, which as a bonus helps build social skills.

We are looking forward to more learning next week!
