We Are Authors, Beach Day, and Assembly Leaders

We have been working hard in writing workshop on our personal narratives. This week, we spent time revising and editing a chosen narrative from our collection of drafts. They really worked hard on these books, adding their own feelings to their books, and editing their writing to make sure snap words were spelled correctly. To celebrate their hard work in "publishing" their books, we shared our stories today with Mrs. Cacioppo's first grade class!
It was such a great experience for them to share their books, and the first graders gave them many compliments. Mrs. Cacioppo's class also made each student in our class a bouquet of paper flowers. Make sure to ask your child about the book he/she published! You will receive all your child's writing at the end of the school year.

This week, we also started our ABC Countdown to the last day of kindergarten! On B day, we moved our classroom to the beach and worked on beach towels all day. We even had a live beach feed on our Smart Board and listened to the ocean all day. The beach towels turned out to be great places to work, and everyone of course loved it.

All year, we have been learning about the 7 Habits of Happy Kids. Today at our student led assembly, all four kindergarten classes performed a song about the habits and leadership. The kids were so proud to perform for the whole school! Video to come soon...

Toy Testing

Today was a very fun day for our class because we got to test toys! As part of our fifth graders' science curriculum, they were required to design and build toys. However, they needed kids to "test" their toys to determine if they needed to revisit the engineering design cycle to make their toys better. Luckily, we got to be the testers! They all loved getting the chance to give their ideas about toys and playing to big kids. They gave some great suggestions, and we discussed together how the design cycle helped them build and revise their toys.
