Engineering Design Challenge

We have some very hard working kindergarten engineers in our classroom! Over the last two weeks we have been learning about shadows in science. We have explored creating our own shadows with flashlights, and we have observed shadows outside.

After learning about shadows, the class was presented with a problem. A little bear was outside all day and got very hot and wasn't feeling well. Using the Engineering Design Cycle, the kids identified a problem:  Mr. Bear was too hot and had a need for shade. They then worked with partners to brainstorm ideas to provide the bear with some shade outside. After brainstorming ideas, they were provided with some supplies (popsicle sticks, clay, paper). The partnerships chose their best idea and created a prototype. We then tested our prototypes outside and found out that most of our structures need to go through the Engineering Design Cycle again. We will continue to work on this project using the design cycle to help us improve our shade structures. The kids have LOVED this activity!

Pumpkin Patch!

We had the perfect day for the pumpkin patch at Theis Farms today! We played, went on a hay ride, got pumpkins, and ate lunch at the farm. Thank you to all the parents (and grandparents) who came with us!
