ABC Countdown and Ladybugs

Our ABC Countdown to the last day of kindergarten has gotten off to a great start. One popular day was "B" for Beach Day. Everyone had fun working on beach towels during the day, and we even watched and listened to some beach feeds from around the world on the SmartBoard while we worked. It was a very fun and relaxing day!

Our letter "D," Draw with Chalk Day has been the most popular day so far. Each child created his/her own name portrait outside. The kids loved finding all the letters in their classmates' names and seeing how all the names were displayed. The photos turned out so cute. Hope you enjoy!

The arrival of our "baby" ladybugs has been very exciting. Right now, our ladybugs don't look like ladybugs at all since they are in the larvae stage of their life cycle. Ask your child to explain the metamorphosis in a ladybug's life. We are looking forward to watching our ladybugs grow and change!

Abilities Awareness

We had a great week celebrating Abilities Awareness! Each day, we had an assembly from a different presenter. The kids really enjoyed each presentation and gained a better understanding of how all people are different. Some of the photos below are from the presentation by CHAMP Support Dogs (Canine Helpers Allow More Possibilities) and from a presentation by Seeyon Choi, a Central High School student who is blind. CHAMP Support Dogs taught us all the ways dogs can help people. Seeyon shared his own personal experiences being blind and showed the children how he can read and write in Braille. We also had presentations by DASA, Dr. John Bruno, and The Ollie Hinkle Heart Foundation.

We have also started a new geometry unit in math. We have been learning the difference between 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes. We have been observing shape attributes and comparing shapes by their sides. Below, the kids are on a shape hunt around our classroom!
