This week, we started a new unit of study in science about force and motion. We have been discussing how things move and have discovered that most things move with a push or a pull. The kids explored how the forces of pushing and pulling set objects into motion around our classroom. They recorded their findings on a Venn diagram and worked together to do so. Many children wanted a blank Venn diagram to take home to explore pushes and pulls at home over the weekend. We certainly have some budding scientists in our room!

Hard at Work and Play
This week we have discussed being 'productive' at school. We have talked about wasting time and how it affects us. We have also talked about what it looks like to be productive in school (and home), both during work times and play times. Being productive during play sounds like a funny thing to work on, but it is incredible how much more learning has happened when we have practiced productivity! The kids have been very busy learning and creating. I told them their productivity would be featured on our blog this week. We hope you enjoy their creations during their productive play!

100 Days Smarter!
We had a lot of fun this week celebrating our 100th day of school. We made crowns that have collections of 100 stickers and/or dots. We made 100 glasses and talked about 3 digit numbers. We also made portraits of what we think we will look like when we're 100 years old!

Time to Relax
In kindergarten, we learn a lot about our emotions and how our emotions affect our actions and behavior. We talk about how being calm, both mentally and physically, helps us focus on learning. We have been practicing guided relaxation, and the kids are even starting to use the strategies we've learned independently when they feel the need to get back to calm and focused.
As we are delving into our new reading unit, we have just begun using Book Boxes! Children are starting to read and be responsible for books appropriate to their own individual reading levels. It is amazing to see the reading they are doing independently now, and they are very excited to "shop" for books to keep in their book boxes.
